How to Move/Copy a Load or Constraint from One Set to Another

Load and constraint sets can be defined for testing various design scenarios. For example, a model may have a force loading of 2,000 lbs for one application but, for another application, the loading is 1,000 lbs. Two unique load sets can be defined for this model within the FEA Editor environment. Load and constraint sets can be turned on and off, which enables the user to have all the loadings and constraints defined in the model, but not necessarily active during a given analysis.

In the FEA Editor model tree, loads and constraints can be moved or copied from one load or constraint set to another by dragging and dropping. The left and right mouse buttons provide different functionality.

Using the right mouse button to drag and drop functions as follows:

  • Right click on the load or constraint that you want to move or copy.
  • Drag the item to the load or constraint set where you want it moved or copied. A pop-up menu will appear with the following options (as shown in Figure 1):
    • Link - The load or constraint will exist in both the original set and the new set. If you change the value of the load or constraint in one set, the change will automatically be made to the load or constraint in the other set.
    • Move - The load or constraint will exist in only the new set. It will be removed from the original set.
    • Duplicate - The load or constraint will be copied from the original set to the new set. The load or constraint will exist in both sets, but will be separate. If you make a change to the load or constraint in one set, the load or constraint in the other set will not be affected.
Figure 1: In the FEA Editor model tree, a boundary condition is copied from one constraint set to another by right clicking on nodal boundary condition 2 in constraint set 1 and then dragging it to constraint set 6. A pop-up menu of options appears and the "Duplicate" option is chosen to specify that the constraint should be copied.

Using the left mouse button to drag and drop functions as follows:

  • Left click on the load or constraint that you want to copy.
  • Drag the item to the load or constraint set where you want it copied (see Figure 2).
  • The load or constraint will be copied to the new set and it will be linked to the original.

For more information about load and constraint sets, see the ALGOR User's Guide.

Figure 2: Forces are copied from one load set to another by left clicking on the nodal forces in load set 1 and then dragging the items to load set 6.
