How to Create a Model Archive File
When an ALGOR analysis is performed, a variety of files are created. What files are needed if you want to send the model to another ALGOR user or store the model for later use? Just one file is needed: the archive file (.ACH).
An archive is a compressed format file containing all model files either with or without results. The .ACH file is similar to a
.ZIP file and can be read with WinZip, but is designed to be opened within
ALGOR software as is described below.
An archive file is created in any of the ALGOR software environments or Superdraw. Follow these steps:
- In the CAD Solid Model, FEA Editor, Superview IV or Report environments, use the "File:Archive:Create..."
command sequence. In Superdraw, use the "File:Archives:Create..."
command sequence. The "Archive Creation Options" screen will
appear as shown below.

-
Under "Included Files", there are
two options: "Model Only" and "Model and Results".
Choose one of these options.
An archive created with the "Model Only" option will contain the geometry
files and the complete .MOD folder (which
contains the nodes, elements and input under the Model Data Control window
or the FEA Editor model tree) for the current model. The archive will have the same name as the current model. If this type of archive is used, the analysis would need to be performed
before any results could be viewed.
An archive created with the "Model and Results"
option will include all the same files as the "Model Only" option (the naming convention is the same as with the "Model Only"
option) plus ALGOR results and supplemental files you
created such as image files, spreadsheets and programs. Any files that you do not want included should be renamed or removed from the model directory before this type of archive is created.
-
Select the "OK" button and an .ACH file will be
made.
This archive can later be retrieved in any of the ALGOR
software environments by using the
"File:Archive:Retrieve…" command sequence or by using the
"File:Archives:Retrieve…" command sequence in Superdraw.
Thus, the archive is the
most convenient method of storing old models or sending a model to another ALGOR
user.
For more information about archiving models, see the
ALGOR User's Guide.
