ALGOR V17
ALGOR V17 features all-new American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) code checking, tree support for surface and body loads, support for hyperfoam and anisotropic materials, rotating reference frames for modeling circulating flows and combined graph and result contour displays. V17 also includes a ruler to display scale when viewing models; streamlined startup with improved launch screen and dialogs; support for curves to define fan effects; and much more.

ALGOR V17 Features
V17's new American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) code checking helps facilitate the design of steel structures, made up of beams and trusses, and ensure code compliance to satisfy third-party design approval. It provides users with a powerful code-verification tool that makes the overall design process quick and efficient. Users can generate an HTML-based report about compliance with the AISC's Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, Allowable Stress Design and Plastic Design, 1989 (ASD 1989).

In V17, after surface and body loads are defined, they are listed in the model tree. Users can simply click on the model tree to quickly and easily select these kinds of loads. Menu options include the ability to show, hide, inquire, modify, cut, copy, paste, delete and filter selected surface or body loads. For example, a selected load can be copied to multiple load sets.

Two new material models are available in V17:
  • a hyperfoam material model for Mechanical Event Simulation (MES); and
  • an anisotropic material model for stress analysis with linear material models.
The hyperfoam material model can simulate any highly compressible material such as a cushion, sponge or padding.

The anisotropic material model can simulate materials that are less symmetrical than orthotropic, such as bone, crystal, soil samples, MEMS or nano-technology applications or test results data from an ultrasonic laboratory.

Support for rotating frames of reference allows users to model 2- and 3-D circulating flows. A dialog provides convenient means of specifying the angular velocity, center of rotation and angle of rotation.

New in V17, the capability to display graphs in the same window as result contours makes presentations more vivid and effective. V17 allows users to display graphs and result contours exactly as wanted in screen displays, animation files and HTML reports.

Also new in V17, a ruler displays scale when viewing models. Options are also available for users to control the size of the scale ruler.

A new and improved launch screen and supporting dialogs streamline the startup process and provide convenient access to popular features such as opening model archives, creating a new model or accessing recent files.

For CFD, users can now specify flow rate and pressure values to define curves for fan effects including external exhaust, external intake and a fan inside of the fluid domain.
